I Celebrate Christmas ...
Earlier today a local news station posted a poll about Cary, NC - the poll was simply this " Poll: Should Cary Call It ‘Community Tree’ Or ‘Christmas Tree?’ " of course I voted "Christmas Tree" and then proceeded to read some of the comments. You know that feeling when you blood begins to boil??? By the way --- here was my reply:
"Oh my goodness. Really? I was having this same discussion the other day ... I grew up in a town in NY where the there were Christian families, there were Jewish families, and I am sure there were other religions in the area - even non religious families ... my point is this ... our school had a Christmas Play, we sang Christmas songs, we sang Hanukkah songs. When you were driving around we looked at Holiday lights b/c there were Christmas trees & Christmas lights, but there were also Menorahs as well as blue & white decorations and lights. Even the families of some of my Jewish friends put up Christmas trees (that is what they called them - not Holiday tree). They did it because they wanted to use that decoration. You said MERRY CHRISTMAS and you would hear HAPPY HANUKKAH. You would wish other families Happy Hanukkah if you knew they were Jewish and they would wish you a Merry Christmas if they knew you were Christian. Political correctness has gone so far that we would rather demean and hide our own traditions in the face of "tolerance" rather than accept others' traditions and appreciate them while we embrace and celebrate our own."
For now -- MERRY CHRISTMAS!
